Kamnik, the town skirted by the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, is one of the most beautiful mediaeval towns in Slovenia. One of the most recognisable symbols of Kamnik is the Chapel (Kapela) at the Small Castle (Mali grad), affording an impressive view over the mediaeval town. Its core is Šutna, a street of distinctive mediaeval houses with picturesque signs and other handicraft symbols. Take a stroll in Šutna and to the Zaprice Castle (grad Zaprice), where collections of the Kamnik Intermunicipal Museum are exhibited. The castle’s surroundings are rearranged into an outdoor museum with granaries from the Tuhinjska dolina valley. See the Franciscan monastery and St. Jacob’s Church (cerkev sv. Jakoba) with the chapel of God’s grave, one of the last creations of the most renowned Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik.
