The monastery in Stična is one of the biggest cultural, sacral and architectural monuments in Slovenia.The oldest part of the monastery form a cloister and the first Romanesque but later transformed into a Baroque monastical church called the Church of the Sad Mother of God.At the only still active Cistercian monastery in Slovenia, there's the Museum of Christianity in the Slovenian territory, a tea shop and an herbal pharmacy, which still preserves the recipes of the vicar Simon Ašič, one of the most well-known Slovenian herbalists.The abbey of Stična is the oldest spiritual and cultural centre in Slovenia. “The Manuscript of Stična” was written here, which is considered to be one of the first written monuments in the Slovenian language.

Opening times:
MUSEUM: guided tours from Monday to Saturday at8.30, 10.00, 14.00 and 16.00; on Sunday at 14.00 and 16.00; group tours only by prior arrangement!
