Jurčič Homestead

Kulturno društvo Josipa Jurčiča

Muljava 3a, 1295 Ivančna Gorica

Muljava is a village near Ivančna Gorica where Josip Jurčič, a renowned Slovenian writer, spent his youthful years. He wrote the first Slovenian novel The Tenth Brother, which is why Muljava and its vicinity is now called the Land of the Tenth Brother. Each March the traditional Hike along the Jurčič Trail takes place on the 15-kilometres trail. The heart of the land is the preserved Jurčič’s homestead, which is now an open-air museum. In addition to the house with a distinctive 19th-century indoor setting, there’s an apiary, granary, flax drying room and the so-called Krjavelj cottage. The museum portrays Jurčič’s life and work, as well as everyday life stories of the farmers.

The local theatre group of the Muljava Josip Jurčič Cultural Society performs Jurčič’s work every year at a natural amphitheatre by the homestead.

Opening times: from 1 March to 1 December – all days from 8.00 to 12.00 and from 14.00 to 17.00; closed on Mondays.
